Overview

Alex is recognised as a leading Australian regulatory investigations and disputes lawyer. With over 20 years' experience in complex commercial disputes, Royal Commissions and regulatory investigations she advises Commonwealth and State Government Departments and Agencies, as well as commercial clients across Victorian and Federal jurisdictions.

Alex has led or played a key role in some of Australia's most significant Royal Commissions and Public Inquiries. Beyond her Royal Commissions and Inquiries practice, Alex is highly experienced in regulatory enforcement work, acting on behalf of regulators, corporations and individuals in large scale complex regulatory proceedings and investigations. She has experience involving regulators such as ASIC, APRA, IBAC and the NACC.

Alex's broader commercial disputes practice encompasses contract disputes, shareholder claims, equity and trusts, wills and estate claims, property disputes, Corporations Act matters, and consumer law claims.

Alex was named Partner of the Year at the Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards (2020) and is listed in Best Lawyers for Litigation and Government Practice, and as a leading litigation and dispute resolution lawyer in Doyle's Guide.

Alongside her legal practice, Alex is a Director of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

Notable Work
  • ASIC Enforcement Proceedings: Acting for ASIC in the first enforcement proceeding of its kind concerning scams and fraud against consumers, alleging failures by HSBC Bank Australia; and acting for ASIC in enforcement proceedings against a digital crypto exchange for misclassification of retail investors in breach of the Corporations Act, resulting in a $10 million penalty.

  • Royal Commission into the Casino Operator and Licence ('Crown Casino Royal Commission'): acted as lead partner of the legal team acting for the State of Victoria.

  • Royal Commission into the Management of Police Informants (Lawyer ‘X’ Royal Commission): acted as a lead partner of the Solicitors Assisting team.

  • Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide: acted for the Commonwealth Agency, Comcare.

  • Royal Commission into the Robodebt Scheme: Acted for Commonwealth Agency, Comcare.

  • Commercial Disputes: Alex is an accredited advisor with Family Business Australia and regularly works with family businesses, trusts, high net worth individuals and private clients in a range of disputes including minority shareholder claims, breach of trust and wills and estates claims.

  • Government Agencies: Alex acted on behalf of a large Commonwealth Agency in a high profile Joint Parliamentary Committee inquiry and related internal investigation. In 2025/26 Alex has acted in multiple Victorian Parliamentary Committee Inquiries, requiring advice on production of documents and preparation of witnesses to appear to give evidence.

  • Complex Litigation: Alex has experience in the Supreme Court of Victoria and Federal Court in commercial disputes involving allegations of breach of contract, enforcement of security interests, calculation of damages and misleading and deceptive conduct. Alex is experienced in alternative dispute resolution processes such as mediation and expert determination.
